Santander U.S. has completed its $12.3 billion acquisition of Webster Bank, expanding the banking giant’s presence across the United States.

The transaction brings together Santander and the Connecticut-based bank in one of the largest strategic expansions for Santander’s U.S. operations. The acquisition was first announced in February and strengthens the company’s position in the American banking market.

Webster Headquarters Becomes Santander Hub

Following the acquisition, Webster Bank’s headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, will become a corporate hub for Santander U.S. alongside its existing locations in Boston, New York, Miami and Dallas.

Santander U.S. CEO Christiana Riley said the transaction represents a major milestone for the company’s long-term growth strategy in the United States and reflects confidence in the strength of the U.S. financial market.

Santander Expands Customer Reach

The combination of Santander and Webster brings together two financial institutions with established customer relationships and shared values.

The merged organization will serve nearly eight million customers across the United States through five growing business divisions, providing expanded resources and broader access to banking services.

Santander said the acquisition will allow the company to better support customers while strengthening its role in communities across the country.
